Documenting and Preserving the History of Truckee Meadows Community College

Soccer Field

The TMCC Soccer Field was a part of a student-conceived and student-driven initiative that created the TMCC Athletics Program. In the fall of 2016, TMCC students voted to bring sports back to TMCC and in 2017 the new athletics program was approved by NSHE.

The TMCC Soccer Field required considerable construction and engineering efforts. 18,000 cubic yards of soil was moved to level the playing field, with some areas requiring excavation of up to 18-feet deep. The field contains 2.3 acres of grass—which is approximately 680 million blades of grass (based on 47 blades of grass per square inch.) Beneath the green rests over a half-mile of irrigation pipe.

The field is surrounded by a 400-meter walking path and will feature an electronic scoreboard and lights to illuminate the space for evening games and practices.

The 2019 Soccer Season begins on August 15, 2019, and will mark the first official use of the TMCC Soccer Field.
