William N. Pennington Health Science Center at Redfield
In early 2015, construction began and the Health Science Center was renamed to reflect the programs housed at Redfield, including the Maxine S. Jacobs School of Nursing, the Radiologic Technology Program, the Veterinary Technician Program and the Certified Nursing Assistant Program.
During the summer of 2015, construction was completed for the new 16,800 square-foot, single story building with a masonry and metal panel exterior. The new addition to the Health Science Center is comprised of two classrooms, a state of the art nursing lab that includes four simulation rooms and two standard patient rooms, a conference room, storage and additional faculty offices. In addition, the existing building space was remodeled to provide a new Radiology Technician Suite, a biology preparatory lab, a nursing computer lab. The Learning Commons was also remodeled to include the library collection, student group study rooms, computer lab, lounge area and help desk for both IT and the library.
Van Woert Bigotti Architecture designed the building, and Q&D Construction was the general contractor.
Thanks to a generous $2 million gift from the William H. Pennington Foundation, $1 million gift from the Nell J. Redfield Foundation, $1 million gift from the Maxine S. Jacobs Foundation, among many others, for providing for the design and construction of this state-of-the-art facility for TMCC.
In honor of his late wife, Herb Jacobs and their family foundation made a significant contribution to the TMCC Foundation, and the Maxine S. Jacobs Nursing Program took on a new name.
