Documenting and Preserving the History of Truckee Meadows Community College

Whispering Wildcat (1974-1976)

Western Nevada Community College's 'Whispering Wildcat' followed 'The Stirrup' as the premier student publication on campus. This publication ran from August 1974 to Spring of 1976. Although the paper went through a name change, the first edition of the Wildcat is published as 'Volume 3, Number 1', continuing with the overall chronology of student publications.

"We of WNCC's newspaper staff are announcing the 'Whispering Wildcat' will be the new name for the newspaper...the meaning is that of a low, soft, gentle voice, that can rise to an aggressive, quick-tempered, ferocious roar if it becomes necessary."                                                                                                                       - Volume 3, Number 1, Fall 1974
